Getting around Fort Lauderdale is relatively easy since the
city uses a numbered system for its streets instead of proper names. There are a few simple points to remember which are described at the bottom of this page after the map links.
Before you arrive in Fort Lauderdale, you'd be wise to buy a good map and guide-book online so that you have one with you when you arrive. |

A very smart pre-trip purchase is the Rand McNally Map of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach featuring all the Major Roads & Highways. This will help you find everything you want to see and do while here. If you'll be renting a car, then this map is essential. |

| Getting Around Fort Lauderdale While all streets have numbers, proper names are given to most of the city's main thoroughfares such as the major east/west corridors that lead to the beaches. These east/west boulevards are (from north to south), Commercial, Oakland Park, Sunrise, Broward and Las Olas. The only exception is 17th Street Causeway which is the major east/west artery that leads past Port Everglades and turns into A1A (the beach road). All have bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway to the beaches except, strangely, Broward. In between the named boulevards are the numbered streets that are consecutively arranged according to the following easy system. They are intersected by numbered avenues that run north/south. There is the odd exception, but this rule will help you in most instances. Andrews Avenue divides the city between the east and west, and Broward Boulevard divides the north and south. Streets run east and west while avenues run north and south. There are four quadrants that an address can be located in, NE, NW, SE and SW. If an address is in the NE quadrant, it is north of Broward Boulevard and east of Andrews Avenue. |
